Doctor en Medicina. Catedrático emérito de la Universidad Complutense. Ex-jefe de Departamento del Hospital General Universitario Gregorio Marañón, del que fue Director médico; ejerció como Profesor agregado de Cirugía experimental, Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona; Profesor encargado de Fisiopatología molecular en las Facultades de Química y Biología y Profesor invitado en el Departamento de Análisis matemático de la Universidad  Complutense; Guest Lecturer,  Departamento Matemáticas, Imperial College, Londres. Delegado Rector Universidad Carlos III para Ingeniería biomédica. Secretario General del Instituto de España; Académico numerario de las Reales Academias Española, de Ciencias Exactas, Físicas y Naturales, y de la Academia Scientiarum et Artium Europaea. Fellow, Royal Society of Medicine (Londres) y de la InterAmerican Medical and Health Association. Miembro del Development Advisory Committee del InterAcademy Panel y del InterAcademy Council (the Global Network of Science Academies). Ha sido director del Plan Nacional para la Prevención de Minusvalías, presidente de la Comisión Nacional para el Síndrome Tóxico, Director de la Unidad de Sanidad Militar del Ministerio de Defensa, Vicepresidente del Comité de Ética de la Investigación Clínica de la Comunidad de Madrid, Secretario del International College of Surgeons y  miembro fundador de la European Biomedical Research Association. Licenciado en Bioquímica y Biología molecular. Máster  en Ecuaciones diferenciales y en Administración de Empresas; Diplomado en Informática médica, en Defensa Nacional y en Dirección y gestión de I+D. Educational Council for Foreign Medical Graduates Award, EE UU. Miembro del Consejo Académico de FIDE.



 
Bachelor and Doctorate (with honors, 1973) in Medicine and Surgery at the Universidad Complutense (Madrid) with a specialty in Surgery. Studied Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the School of Chemistry and Differential Equations in Mathematics, at the Universidad Complutense. Studied veterinary medicine, music theory and piano and flying. Diploma in National Defense by the Higher Center for National Defence Studies (CESEDEN)-The High Command of the Chiefs of Defense (EMAD); in Medical Informatics at the Informatics Institute, that was the Ministry of Education and Science, and in Management of R&D by the Higher School of Public Administration from the  National Institute of Public Administration. Master in Business Administration (MBA) from the Instituto de Empresa (Madrid). Deputy Hon. Rector of the Universidad Carlos III for “Biomedical Sciences and Bioengineering” and the Medal of Honor from the said University. Deputy Hon. Rector of the Universidad de Cantabria for “Singular Projects”. Professor Emeritus (Oct. 2014), heading the Department of Pathophysiology and Surgical Propedeutics of the Universidad Complutense, after serving as Professor of Experimental Surgery at Universitat Autónoma de Barcelona, and Professor in charge of Molecular Pathophysiology in the Department Biochemistry and Molecular Biology in the School of Chemistry and Biology at the Universidad Complutense. Former senior consultant and former head of the Department of Gregorio Marañon General Hospital School of Medicine (Madrid), where he was the Medical Director, Head of Research and Chief of General Surgery Clinic. Held the positions of Director of the National Plan for the Prevention of Handicaps, President of the National Commission for Spanish Toxic Syndrome and Director of Military Health Unit of the Ministry of Defense. He has been the Head of Surgical Equipment (General Surgery), Social Security, and Medical Fellow of the Municipal Charity of Madrid. Secretary General of the Institute of the Royal Kingdom of Spain (Instituto de España). Scientific Advisor of Botin Foundation and founder and coordinator of the Program of Science. Patron of the University Antonio de Nebrija and Vodafone Foundation. Director of Science-Technology Forum of the Center for Studies in Public Policy and Governance at the University of Alcala de Henares (Spain). Member of Fide´s Academic Council.
